There are a few ways to erase or reset your engine or check engine light on your car.
1. Use an OBD2 Scanner: This is the easiest and most direct way. Plug the device into your car (typically under the dashboard on the driver's side), and follow the instructions provided with the device to reset the engine light.
2. Reset by Disconnecting the Battery: Disconnect the positive & negative battery cables from the battery. Leave it disconnected for about 15-20 minutes to reset the vehicles electrical system which should reset the check engine light.
3. Visit a Mechanic: If you're not comfortable doing either of these things, a mechanic can easily erase the engine light for you, as well as diagnose why the light was on in the first place.
Beware, however - erasing or resetting the engine or check engine light does not solve the problem that caused it to illuminate. If there's an underlying issue, the light will simply come back on. It is important to fully diagnose and resolve the problem.
